The first Tasmanian Chooks fresh & tasty store opened at Ulverstone in October marking the 40th store for the Western Australian barbecue and fried chicken chain. Steve Hansen, chief chook of Chooks said the expansion into Tasmania had been on the cards for some time and was a major step forward for the franchise network.

Hansen said in an ideal world Chooks' next goal was to reach the 75 store mark within the next three years across the country. In 2009 the fast food franchise was ranked 22nd on BRW’s Fastest Growing Franchise list (by revenue) recording a $28.96 million revenue for the 2008/09 financial year.
